Woman dies in morning rollover near Wasilla

A 48-year-old Eagle River woman was killed in a single-car rollover crash on the Parks Highway near Wasilla early Tuesday morning, troopers said.

About 6:08 a.m., multiple people called Mat-Su emergency dispatchers to report the rollover crash, which occurred at Mile 37.5 of the Parks Highway. An Alaska state trooper who was nearby arrived at the scene within three minutes, according to a troopers dispatch posted Tuesday.

The trooper couldn't find a pulse on the driver, identified later by troopers as Ines Lara-Morfin. Paramedics responded and declared Lara-Morfin dead about 6:14 a.m., the dispatch said. She was alone in the car when the crash occurred.

A preliminary investigation determined that Lara-Morfin was driving a 2007 Chevrolet two-door sedan northbound on the Parks Highway near Hyer Road when the car went into the median between the northbound and southbound lanes, troopers said.

"The driver overcorrected and crossed both lanes of the northbound Parks Highway and rolled approximately four times before the car came to rest on its roof in the ditch of the northbound lanes," troopers wrote in the dispatch.

The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol is investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash, which were not immediately clear Tuesday. The state medical examiner's office will be conducting an autopsy, troopers said.
