Spring creek officer assaulted

A corrections officer from Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward was transported to a local hospital Friday after he was punched by an inmate, according to a press release from the Department of Corrections.

Brenton Kehoe, 25, became agitated during a routine cell move and assaulted the officer, striking him with a closed fist, the department said.

Kehoe was arrested on Oct. 18 for a probation violation. The inmate was originally charged in February 2010 for burglary, the department said. Kehoe has been involved with 25 disciplinary cases for fighting, lying, not following directions and being in possession of contraband. The officer involved in the latest incident is in stable condition. Alaska State Troopers are investigating.
