Man shot in foot outside Bernie's Bungalow downtown

A man was shot in the foot during a fight outside Bernie's Bungalow Lounge downtown early Saturday morning, Anchorage police said.

The incident occurred about 2:30 a.m., close to bar closing time.

"Two groups of people got into some kind of fight, and then it escalated into a shooting," police spokeswoman Anita Shell said. Witnesses told police multiple shots were fired.

One of the shots struck a man in the foot, Shell said. He was treated at a local hospital and released.

Shell said police are looking for the shooter and sorting out conflicting statements among witnesses. It's not clear what sparked the fight, she said.

No description of the shooter was available. Detectives asked anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward.
