The AHL is in the midst of its conference finals, and there are Alaska connections in both series.
In the East, the St. John's IceCaps, coached by former Alaska Aces head coach, assistant coach and Kelly Cup-winning captain Keith McCambridge (2006), today evened their best-of-7 series with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 1-1 with a 2-1 home-ice win. The IceCaps include former UAA winger Josh Lunden, who played today for the fifth time in the postseason. In 23 regular-season games, Lunden went 6-4--10.
In the West, the Toronto Marlies (yes, they play in the West), lead the Texas Stars 1-0 in that best-of-7 that continues with Game 2 Monday in Texas. The Stars include former Alaska Aces defenseman William Wrenn of Anchorage. Wrenn has only played in two playoff games, with one assist. In the regular-season, he earned 2-5--7 totals in 40 games.
