Though he didn't play in any Memorial Cup games, rookie center Lane Bauer of Anchorage was part of the Edmonton Oil Kings team that today won the coveted title as champions of major-junior hockey.

Edmonton beat Guelph 6-3 to add the Memorial Cup to the Western Hockey League crown they earlier won by beating the Portland Winterhawks in those finals.

Bauer, 18, didn't play in any of Edmonton's five Memorial Cup games. He played in six games in the WHL playoffs, and in 47 regular-season games earned 7-9--16 totals. Imagine he'll be back with the Oil Kings next season.

The Oil Kings are coached by Derek Laxdal, who Anchorage fans may recall previously was head coach of the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads.
