Firefighters work to extinguish JBER blaze

Firefighters were working to extinguish a small fire on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Sunday.

Firefighters with the Alaska Division of Forestry got a call about the blaze at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, said Sarah Saarloos, an agency spokeswoman. The fire was about five acres as of 6 p.m., Saarloos said.

On Sunday afternoon, firefighters used a helicopter to drop water pulled from a nearby lake on the blaze. A second Forestry helicopter was sent to help, Saarloos said.

It was not immediately clear where on base the fire was located.

No structures are threatened by the fire, Saarloos said.
