Wasilla homeowner halts theft, holds thieves at gunpoint until police arrive

Two Wasilla residents were in jail after being caught attempting to steal vehicle parts from a home and held at gunpoint by the homeowner Wednesday evening, Alaska State Troopers said.

According to trooper reports, 18-year-old Colton Renfro and 20-year-old Jessica Copeland, both of Wasilla, entered a property on Museum Drive in Wasilla intending to steal parts from vehicles stored there. The property's owner arrived during the theft and held the pair at gunpoint until police arrived, troopers said.

Both Renfro and Copeland were charged with first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree theft. Colton was charged with fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon after police found him in possession of a set of brass knuckles, driving with a suspended license, and violating conditions of release. Copeland was charged with sixth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance after police found her in to possess marijuana. Both were taken to Mat-Su Pretrial facility.

Investigation into the incident continues, and troopers say they expect additional charges.
