Troopers respond to two-vehicle collision on Knik-Goose Bay Road

Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Wasilla, Alaska State Troopers said.

The collision was reported to troopers shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wilson Carpenter, 73, was driving east near mile 5 of Knik Goose Bay Road in a Ford F-350 pickup truck with three passengers. Christopher Woods, 37, was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix behind Carpenter when he lost consciousness and smashed into the rear of the truck, troopers said.

Both vehicles skidded off of the road and flipped into a ditch. Woods, Carpenter and one passenger were taken to the hospital. Both cars were totaled, troopers said.

Troopers initially reported that two people had been ejected from the pickup truck and were likely not wearing seatbelts. A later report said that all parties reported wearing seatbelts and no one was thrown from either vehicle.

Woods was cited for failure to exercise due care to avoid collision, troopers said.
