Stories and songs

Alan Rachins, who made his mark in musicals before landing regular roles in prime time television hits "L.A. Law" and "Dharma and Greg," will present a "unique cabaret" fundraiser for Cyrano's at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Rachins will be accompanied by pianist/composer Shelly Markham in what looks like a highly entertaining evening. Tickets are $35 for the show and $45 for "VIP" tickets, which get admission to a special party with Rachins and Markham after the performance, all available at centertix.net or by calling 263-2787. Note that the show will be in Sydney Laurence Theatre. The afterparty will take place at Cyrano's, 413 D St.

1% for Art Excursion

The Anchorage Museum will present a behind-the-scenes narrated tour of Anchorage's public art, including work by some of Alaska's best-known artists. This bus tour is led by Angela Demma from the Municipality of Anchorage's 1% for Art Program. Snacks and water provided, but bring a brown bag lunch and dress for walking in unpredictable weather. The tour will start at the museum, 625 C St., at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and be over by 1 p.m. The cost is $30. Register online at tickets.anchoragemuseum.org

Watercolors of Iceland and Greenland

Artist Mark McDermott will open a solo show of recent paintings of scenes from Greenland and Iceland at a First Friday reception, 4:30 p.m. Friday, at Stephan Fine Arts Gallery in the lobby of the Hotel Captain Cook, 939 W. Fifth Ave. The multi-award-winning McDermott is known for his Alaska landscapes and says he finds much in common with the high-latitude scenery and people of the North Atlantic. The show will remain on display through June 22. Find out more at markmcdermottart.com.
