CINCINNATI -- Turns out Alaska Aces veteran goaltender Gerald Coleman and Cincinnati Cyclones veteran center Dan Eves are best buds.
Coleman and Eves played two seasons together for the ECHL's Trenton Devils -- 2008-09 and 2009-10 -- and were roommates. They've stayed tight since, with Coleman moving to the Aces the following season and Eves spending nearly all of the subsequent four seasons with Cincinnati.
Coleman told The Blog earlier in these Kelly Cup Finals -- the Aces lead the Cyclones 2-1 in the best-of-7 heading into tonight's Game 4 here -- that Eves visited Coleman in Alaska last summer and they went salmon fishing. Eves this season put up 9-28--37 totals in 63 regular-season games and owns 3-6--9 totals in 21 playoff games.
Coleman said he and Eves stay in touch regularly, and they often play an NHL video game on the Internet. Coleman joked that he lets Eves triumph because he wants to strengthen his pal's self-esteem.
"He beats me all the time,'' Coleman said. "I have to give him some confidence.''
