Weekend Picks: Renaissance Fair, Spenard Jazzfest, more

3 Barons Renaissance Fair

It's time to get medieval at the 20th annual 3 Barons Renaissance Fair. Take in the revelry at the "Game of Steel," Tomato Show and Circus of the Damned, or take a stroll through the historic village. There will also be vendors, crafts and Renaissance Run 5-K. Spenard Jazzfest

Spenard is the place for live jazz this weekend. The Jam Jar will feature sets by the Bleicher/Cruver Trio 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Spenard Farmers Market, 2555 Spenard Road. Free. There will be an "Originals Only" showcase with local jazz artists. Hosted by Dan McElrath, 4-11 p.m. Saturday at Organic Oasis, $15-$20. 2610 Spenard Road. The Melissa Bledsoe Band will host The Jazz Brunch, noon-2 p.m. Sunday, Organic Oasis. All ages, $15-$20. See spenardjazzfest.org for more.

Alaska Run for Women

Alaska Run for Women attracts about 7,000 runners annually. Sign up online Friday at akrfw.org or in person from 6:45-8 a.m. Saturday at Mulcahy Stadium, A Street and East 16th Avenue. Download the race map, see a list of registered participants and read the rules online. A suggested donation of $25 is requested.

It's time to take in some baseball. The Anchorage Bucs and the Glacier Pilots go head to head in the season's opening games at 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday. More games are set for 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. All games are played at Mulcahy Field, A Street and East 16th Avenue. $5-$7; season tickets also available.
