Aces update: Ramage suspended from Game 5

Doyle Woody,Adn Staff

The ECHL just announced that Alaska Aces defenseman John Ramage is suspended from Saturday night's crucial Game 5 of the Kelly Cup Finals against the Cincinnati Cyclones for an elbow he delivered --  he did not get penalized then -- in the second period of Cincinnati's 3-1 win Friday in Game 4.

That means the Aces will be without their top pairing on the blue line. Aces coach Rob Murray at the club's morning skate said Kane Lafranchise, Ramage's partner, would not be in the lineup tonight because of a lower-body injury. Drew MacKenzie will take Lafranchise's spot, Murray said.

Now, he'll have to insert either Zach Davies or James Martin to take Ramage's place.

That makes at least three lineup changes for the Aces. Murray this morning said winger Alex Belzile would return after missing three games with a lower-body injury and take Ross Ring-Jarvi's spot in the lineup.

The ECHL said Ramage's elbowing, which also carries an unspecified fine, came with just more than seven minutes left in the second period. The Blog does not see anything in his notes, so he missed it just like referees Ryan Murphy and Frederic Leblanc.

{UPDATE) Aces coach Rob Murray said Ramage's elbowing came in the second period on Cincy's Josh Shalla, who is a scratch tonight, which is likely why Ramage got docked a game. Shalla leads all playoff goal scorers with 11.
