Scooter Bynum of Fairbanks will say thanks but no thanks to the Cincinnati Reds, who drafted him Saturday in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft.
Bynum, a 6-foot-2 outfielder for Monroe who is this season's Gatorade Player of the Year for Alaska, will forego signing with the Reds to play junior college baseball next school year at Arizona Western.
Alaskans can get a look at him this season in the Alaska Baseball League. Bynum will play for the Fairbanks Goldpanners.
Bynum, a star for Monroe's football, basketball and baseball teams this school year, was the 545th player selected in the draft, which began Thursday.
