Letter: In praise of Big Oil

The Wilderness Society's recent opinion piece on Big Oil represents a most extreme view of development. They see the world through a fog — that wilderness must be protected from mankind. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge — 20 million acres in farthest-north Alaska. Will any of us ever get to see it? Slim chance.

Oil spills, environmental damage, loss of subsistence resources — hogwash. Big Oil has done more to advance mankind and preserve environments than anyone. They've made some mistakes, sure — they're human! I'm employed in the Big Oil industry and I'm damn proud of it. Drill, baby, drill! We'll do it as safe and responsible as humanly possible.
