AROUND THE HORN
THURSDAY'S GAMES
Bucs 16, Seals 7
A pair of Anchorage pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts in five innings in the Bucs' 16-7 romp over San Francisco at Mulcahy.
Zach Ferntheil fanned six in four innings and Johnny Meszaros struck out four in a single inning, a feat made possible when one of the batters he struck out reached base on a dropped third strike.
Home runs from Andy Crowley, Cade Reiten and Mark Krueger powered the offense, and Krueger, a 6-foot-5 first baseman, racked up five RBIs on a 4-for-5 hitting effort.
Miners 3, Monarchs 3
The Monarchs of Lake Erie, Michigan, scored a run in the eighth inning to forge a 3-3 tie with the Miners in a nonconference game in Palmer.
Nick Senzel doubled twice, drove in a run and scored a run to lead Mat-Su, which had an 8-5 edge in hits.
Chinooks 15, Legion 1
Nicholas Covello needed just one inning to pad his stats in Chugiak's 15-1 rout of the Legion All-Stars at Loretta French Park.
Covello drove in four runs in a 12-run second inning, knocking in two runs with a double and two more with a triple later in the inning, during which Chugiak sent 16 men to the plate.
A trio of pitchers tamed the Legion lineup, allowing three hits and striking out 11.
