Police investigating attempted knifepoint assault

Police are investigating a report that a man threatened a 15-year-old girl at knifepoint in South Anchorage.

The girl called police Thursday to report that she was standing on the porch at her home on the 6000 block of Joseph Street when a man she didn't know approached her, police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro wrote in a statement. The man allegedly knew the girl's name and other personal information.

The girl told police that the man, possibly in his 20s, held a knife to her throat and began to cut her clothing, Castro wrote. But he was startled by the sound of a car door closing and ran away toward Raspberry Road, Castro wrote.

The suspect was described as about 6 feet tall with a thin build and hair in dreadlocks with black rubber bands. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark-wash blue jeans.

Police responded to the home to investigate the incident, according to Castro.

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect or the incident to call 786-8900 and press "0" to speak with a police dispatcher. To submit a tip anonymously, please call Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or submit a tip online at www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
