Anchorage police ask for help identifying near-drowning victim

Anchorage police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who nearly drowned before being pulled from Lake Hood Saturday evening.

At about 9:51 p.m. police received a report of a man "struggling" in the water of Lake Hood, a busy seaplane base in Anchorage's Spenard neighborhood, the Anchorage Police Department said in a statement Sunday.

Firefighters and police were able to pull the man from the water. He was resuscitated at a local hospital but "remained unconscious," police said.

The man, whose identity is unknown, remains in critical condition.

"No one has recognized him, and there was no identification found on his person," police said.

Police describe the man as a heavy-set Alaska Native adult, possibly in his 30s or 40s, with short hair and a clean-shaven face. He was wearing a dark T-shirt and dark shorts when he was found.

Anyone with information is asked to call Anchorage Police at 907-786-8500.
