Police ID man who nearly drowned in Lake Hood

Anchorage police have identified the man pulled from Lake Hood after nearly drowning over the weekend as 18-year-old Jimmy Paul James.

The Anchorage Police Department said in a release that as of Monday, James was still unconscious and in critical condition at an area hospital, but with his family.

James was found struggling in the Spenard-area lake just before 10 p.m. Saturday. Police said he had nearly drowned before being pulled from the water.

Authorities were unable to identify James immediately following his rescue and asked for the public's help, originally describing the teen as a man in his 30s or 40s. A photograph of James was never released, due to what police referred to as "decency and privacy concerns."
