Detour won't affect certification for Mayor's Marathon

A detour in Saturday's Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon due to a collapsed pedestrian bridge won't affect the race's certification, according to race director Michael Friess.

The course is certified by USA Track and Field and finishers can use their time to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

On Monday, the Westchester Lagoon bridge collapsed, forcing a slight detour through a near neighborhood for runners on Saturday.

Late registration for the race ends Wednesday. Runners can also sign up during the marathon expo Thursday and Friday at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel, though registration fees are higher.

Four other races will be held in addition to the marathon and half marathon, including a 4-mile, 1.6-mile, marathon relay and a new two-person half marathon relay.
