Midnight Sun Game Saturday
The Fairbanks Goldpanners will host the 109th Midnight Sun Game on Saturday against the Lake Erie Monarchs. The annual summer solstice game begins at 10:30 p.m. and is played without stadium lights. The only light comes from the sun.
Anchorage will also host a late game Saturday -- the longest day of the year -- when the Pilots and Chinooks meet at Mulcahy at 10 p.m.
Miners 6, Pilots 5
Cameron Newell hit a bases-clearing double during a five-run third inning for the Miners, who downed the visiting Pilots 6-5.
Newell, who also hit a home run, finished with three hits and four RBIs.
Three players had two hits apiece for the Pilots, who held a 4-0 advantage after the top of the third before Mat-Su responded in the bottom of the inning.
Bucs 11, Legion All-Stars 0
Six of the Bucs' runs came in the fifth inning in an 11-0 win over the American Legion All-stars.
Evan Powell went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and scored twice for the Bucs, who held the All-stars to six hits using six pitchers.
Lathrop's Terrell Ford went 2 for 3 to lead the Legion team.
Oilers 11, Waves 5
All 10 Oilers who had an at bat recorded at least one hit in an 11-5 win over the visiting San Diego team.
Sandy Sandlin went 3 for 3, drew two walks and scored twice for Kenai, which scored five runs in the third inning and four in the fifth.
Six Oilers pitchers combined for nine hits, nine strikeouts and two walks.
Panners, Monarchs, Canceled
The Panners-Monarchs game scheduled for Thursday was canceled due to rain and will not be made up.
