Flood watch in effect for Susitna Valley, Talkeetna Mountains

The National Weather Service on Wednesday issued a flood watch for the Upper Susitna Valley and Talkeetna Mountains through Friday afternoon.

Forecasters warned that a "large atmospheric disturbance" bearing down on the region was expected to bring widespread moderate to heavy rain through Friday, with as much as 3 inches or more in certain spots and 2 to 2.5 inches for the Upper Susitna and Talkeetnas. Rain was expected to swell rivers including the Talkeetna, Susitna, Maclaren and Chulitna, with the Talkeetna expected to reach minor flood stage on Thursday afternoon.
