Letter: Troops don’t belong in Middle East

U.S. troops do not belong in the Middle East. The region has been immersed in ill-defined hostilities for centuries. There is nothing U.S. troops can do to effect significant change.

Politicians eager to put young Americans in harm’s way are motivated by allegiances to Big Oil. Any euphemistic phrases which contain the words “humanitarian” or “stabilization” can be translated to “Don’t disturb the flow of oil.”

It is time to identify sustainable energy sources and free ourselves from the politics of dependence on foreign oil.
