Boyles earns first-round bye in state match-play golf

Rick Boyles, a senior who outplayed the entire field in Thursday’s qualifying round of the state match-play golf championships, will get a first-round bye Saturday morning when match play begins at the Moose Run Creek Course.

Boyles shot 73 in qualifying, seven strokes better than any other senior-division golfers and three better than the top players in the open division.

Top qualifiers in the open division were Kevin Daniels, Richard Teders and Tim Ruf, who all carded 76s. Tops among the women was Susie McLeod, who fired an 83.

Winners of Saturday’s morning matches will advance to the afternoon round and play another 18 holes. Winners of those matches will move onto Sunday’s final round.
