Letter: Discrimination against gay people is a form of hatred

I don't understand the storm regarding the marriage of gays and lesbians. The right to marry an individual you have emotionally bonded with and plan to spend the rest of your life with is a basic human right of every individual, with no exceptions.

I've noticed occasional references to our state's position of lieutenant governor as the governor lite. I view discrimination of gays and lesbians as hatred lite, because that's what discrimination is — a form of hatred.

I hope when the country's Supreme Court eventually rules in favor of gay marriage the opponents can emerge from darkness and see the gay community for what they really are. They are just like the rest of us: normal people living their lives to provide for themselves and their families the best way they can.
