Piano-e-Competition semi-finalists announced

The field of the first Alaska International Piano-e-Competition narrowed from 22 to 10 on Thursday as judges made their picks from the first round of performances. The ten semi-finalists, in order of performance, are:

Chen Guang, China/Italy

Timur Mustakimov, Russia

Marianna Prjevalskaya, Spain

Joo Hyeon Park, South Korea

Peter Friis Johansson, Denmark/Sweden

Pavel Gintov, Ukraine

Hyejin Kim, South Korea

Frank Dupree, Germany

Soo Yeon Ham, South Korea

Alexey Chernov, Russia 

For the second round of competition, each contestant will present a Schubert sonata. The performances, which are being given on a Yamaha Disklavier piano, are linked to similar pianos via computer and the Internet to replicate the live performances in Davis Concert Hall, at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in different venues around the world.

Competition will resume at noon on Saturday, July 5, and continue through Jul 12.
