A 5-year-old boy rescued from Glacier Creek near Girdwood Friday evening died Sunday morning, Alaska State Troopers said.
The boy's name is not being released, said AST spokeswoman Megan Peters.
At 6:27 p.m. on Friday 911 dispatchers in Soldotna got a frantic call from the child's mother, who said her son had been standing next to Glacier Creek as she put another child in her vehicle. When she turned around he was gone.
Around 7 p.m., searchers from agencies including the troopers, Girdwood Fire Department and Anchorage Police Department found the boy in an area where Glacier Creek meets Turnagain Arm. Rescuers performed CPR until a LifeMed helicopter arrived to transport the child to Providence Alaska Medical Center.
The family is donating the boy's organs, Peters said.
