A nearly seven-hour standoff between police and a South Anchorage woman who allegedly fired shots at her husband ended Saturday night when SWAT team members discovered the woman dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Anchorage Police arrived at a home on the 1100 block of East 74th Avenue, north of Dimond Boulevard and east of the Old Seward Highway, just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday after reports of a woman shooting at her husband, APD spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said Sunday.

"The husband was able to flee the residence and reported to police hearing a second gunshot after he was outside," she said.

A SWAT team called to the scene tried to contact the woman for hours. Police entered the house just before midnight and found her dead.

Police did not release the names of the people involved. The death remains under investigation, Castro said.
