UAA men sign high-scoring guard

A 6-foot-2 guard who set the single-game scoring record at Scottsdale Community College last season is joining the UAA men's basketball team.

Kevin Bowman, who dropped in 47 points in a double-overtime game in January, will be used at wing and point guard, UAA coach Rusty Osborne said Tuesday in a news release from the school.

Bowman averaged 17.2 points and 2.3 assists per game last season at the Arizona junior college. He shot 44 percent from the floor, 42 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent from the foul line.

His 47 points came in a win over Glendale Community College. In a win over Eastern Arizona, he poured in 33 points. He ranked 11th in scoring in the Arizona Community Colleges Athletic Conference.

"Kevin can flat-out shoot the basketball and is capable of exploding for huge games," Osborne said.

"His ability to play both the point guard and wing position will be in valuable. We now have talented, experienced depth at all three backcourt positions. This should allow us to have a high level of competition in practice and also gives us the ability to play multiple combinations and overcome any injuries we may encounter during the season."
