California kid throws 7-inning no-hitter in BP Exploration baseball tournament

Chris Crosby of the Team Avenue Academy of California threw a seven-inning no-hitter Friday night in a 4-0 victory over South Post 4 to highlight the second day of the 20th annual BP Exploration Invitational Tournament for American Legion baseball teams.

Crosby struck out eight and did not walk a batter at Mulcahy Stadium. He threw 82 pitches, 57 of them for strikes, and retired the first 11 hitters he faced. He also retired the last nine hitters he faced.

The only three South players to reach base all did so on errors, and Crosby stranded two of them at third base.

In other games, the Colchester Cannons of Vermont got off to a roaring start, bagging two victories on a day that featured five games.

The Cannons enjoyed a pair of complete-game performances in the seven-inning games – Brett McAllister went the distance in a 6-4 win over Dimond Post 21 and Derek Sanderson did likewise in a 7-4 victory over the Strathmore Reds of Canada.

Colchester's Cole Reilly drove in two runs in the opener against Dimond. The Cannons scored three runs in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie against Strathmore and Jared Rylant drove in two runs.

Rylant stole three bases in each game and the Cannons stole a combined 14 bases in the two games despite going to the plate in just 13 innings.
