BUCS MOVE UP
Three Anchorage Bucs pitchers held the Peninsula Oilers in check Wednesday night in Kenai, pushing their club to a 4-2 victory at Seymour Park that lifted them into a first-place tie with the Fairbanks Goldpanners atop the Alaska Baseball League’s American League.
At 17-10 in league games, the Bucs are tied with the Goldpanners (13-6), who own the edge in winning percentage, .684 to .630.
Bucs left-hander Trevor Lacosse (3-0) surrendered five hits and two unearned runs in five innings Wednesday to lower his earned-run average to 2.01. He struck out six and has fanned 41 batters in 35 2/3 innings this summer. Right-hander Peter Lenstrom pitched two innings of scoreless relief, as did left-hander Alex Godzak, who earned his first save.
Tyler Ware and Jake Stone furnished the Bucs RBI singles in the second inning, Grant Palmer contributed an RBI single in the fifth and Evan Powell added an RBI double in the seventh.
MINERS SNUFF PANNERS
Cameron Frost blasted two home runs on the road Wednesday night at Growden Park to help the National League-leading Mat-Su Miners beat the Fairbanks Goldpanners, 7-1, and snap Fairbanks’ nine-game winning streak.
Frost, who has five homers this summer, went 2 for 5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. He’s hitting .339 and has delivered 22 extra-base hits in 30 games.
Right-hander Ryan Hendrix (2-1) allowed one unearned run and limited the Goldpanners to three hits in his seven innings of work.
Mat-Su leads the Anchorage Glacier Pilots by 4 1/2 games in the National League and has a magic number of two to win the division.
The annual Major League Baseball/Alaska Baseball League Showcase is set for Friday and Saturday at Mulcahy Stadium.
The event brings includes all six ABL teams playing one game each day and giving scouts a chance to get a glimpse of the league’s players in one setting.
