A Valdez man was killed in an apparent four-wheeler accident north of Eureka Wednesday night, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers responded in a helicopter to a report of a man's body on the Dillinger Pass trail, about 13 miles north of Eureka. About 9:49 p.m. Wednesday, troopers found an overturned four-wheeler on what they described as a "remote portion" of the trail.
An investigation found that Ben Hopper, 65, lost control of his four-wheeler while making a steep descent, troopers wrote in a dispatch posted Thursday. The four-wheeler flipped and pinned Hopper underneath, killing him.
The helicopter took Hopper's body to the road to be taken to the state medical examiner's officer for an autopsy.
