THURSDAY'S GAMES
GOLDPANNERS WIN IN EXTRAS
Tanner Pinkston ripped a three-run walk-off home run with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning Thursday night to get the streaking Fairbanks Goldpanners back in the win column with a 7-4 Alaska Baseball League victory over the Mat-Su Miners at Growden Park.
Scott Hurst opened the bottom of the 10th with a single and moved to second base on Cody Nulph's sacrifice bunt. Vahn Bozoian drew a walk. Pinkston then parked a 1-2 pitch to give the Goldpanners their 10th win in the last 11 games.
Nulph went 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs to raise his average to .369. He has driven in 32 runs in 28 games, and scored 27 runs.
The game was a battle of league leaders — the Goldpanners hold a one-half game edge on the Anchorage Bucs atop the American League and the Miners have a four-game cushion on the Anchorage Glacier Pilots atop the National League.
FOUR CHINOOKS LEAD SHUTOUT
Four Chugiak Chinook pitchers combined on five-hit shutout Thursday night at Loretta French Field to bag a 4-0 victory over the visiting Peninsula Oilers.
Thomas Altimont and Ryan Harris each went two innings, Kyle McDorman (3-2) went 223 innings for the win and Shane Armstrong pitched the final 213 innings for the save.
Jackson Cramer led off the second inning with a homer and later contributed a two-run single. Josh Altmann added an RBI single and Steven Karkenny went 3 for 4.
SHOWCASE CONTINUES
