AROUND THE HORN
SATURDAY'S GAMES
Miners 2, Bucs 1
The Miners manufactured a run in the top of the seventh inning to beat the Bucs 2-1 in one of three games on the final day of the MLB/ABL Showcase at Mulcahy Stadium, where a number of major league scouts gathered to observe this summer's talent.
Leadoff hitter Cameron Frost singled to reach base in the final inning for the Miners. A steal put him on second base and a wild pitch pitch sent him to third, where he scored on Nike Blase's one-out sacrifice fly.
The Bucs put their leadoff man on base in the bottom of the inning. Garrett Copeland singled and moved to second on a fielder's choice but was stranded there.
Chugiak 6, Pilots 1
The red-hot Chinooks beat the Pilots 6-1 for their fifth straight victory. Four Chugiak pitchers, including winning pitcher Zachary Freeman, combined for a one-hitter in the seven-inning game.
Chugiak broke a 1-1 tie with a four-run fifth inning. The key hit was James Nevant's two-run single.
Riley Adams was the only Pilot to get a hit.
Goldpanners 7, Oilers 1
Hometown player Scooter Bynum stroked a bases-loaded triple to ignite a six-inning fourth inning for the Goldpanners, who triumphed 7-1 over the Peninsula Oilers.
Cody Nulph cracked his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot, to contribute to the big inning.
