The FBI has released photos and a description of a bank robbery suspect who held up a First National Bank Alaska branch Wednesday morning.
FBI Anchorage Division said in a news release that the alleged bank robber is a white male with “light to medium skin tones.” The man is believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s. He is between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches inches tall, with a small to medium build.
When the suspect robbed the Northern Lights Boulevard bank, he wore a black shoulder-length wig and facial hair that may have been dirt or makeup in an attempt to disguise himself.
Additionally, he wore a blue and grey baseball cap with "Portland" on the front, and multiple layers of clothing including a black hooded jacket, black pants, and black tennis shoes with white soles and sides.
Anchorage police sent out alerts early Wednesday warning commuters to avoid the area around 5305 E. Northern Lights, the location of the bank. Shortly after 11, police said a search was underway for a male suspect “who may be armed with a gun.”
The FBI reports the man walked into the bank at 10:31 a.m. and approached a teller. He displayed a gun, then presented a note demanding money and stating he was armed. He robbed the bank “of an undisclosed amount of money,” according to the news release.
Authorities believe he fled on foot through a Value Village parking lot.
Anchorage police spokesperson Jennifer Castro said officers set up a basic perimeter around the area and a canine tracking unit was deployed.
As of 5 p.m., the suspect had not been taken into custody.
The bank’s Senior Vice President Cheri Gillian declined to comment about or how much money the robber made off with.
“All employees and customers are safe,” she said.
