Woman, 22, accused of sexual assault in 'revenge' attack over missing heroin, police say

Three people, including a 22-year-old woman who is still on the run, have been charged with felony sexual assault of a man at an East Anchorage hotel, police say.

Charges against Casey R. Jones, Lydell T. Butler and Mariya K. Kalinina accuse the trio of beating and raping the man this month in what police say was revenge over missing heroin. A grand jury indicted the three Wednesday.

Police learned of the encounter when the victim, who is described in court documents only by his initials, appeared naked and bleeding at 10:45 p.m. Aug. 11 on Fireoved Drive. The man sought help, saying he had been sexually assaulted with objects moments earlier at the Arctic Tern Inn, according to a bail memo in the case.

The man had escaped by jumping out of a second-floor window of the hotel, landing on his feet, prosecutors wrote.

A neighbor of the hotel provided the man with clothing. The apparent victim told a patrolman that three people including a man he knew as Casey, a woman he knew as Misha and a man he knew as Ali beat him with a Mag Light metal flashlight, firearms and their feet and hands, according to the charges.

The man later identified the trio as Jones, 25, Butler, 24, and Kalinina -- who is also known as Mesha or Mosha -- using a photo lineup, prosecutors wrote.

Police on Friday asked the public with help locating Kalinina. She is wanted on a felony warrant, including two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree assault.

Police say Kalinina is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 125 pounds. She has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Police are asking anyone with information about her to call police dispatch at 786-8900 or, to remain anonymous, Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or submit a tip on its website.

Jones and Butler also have been charged with felonies. They were scheduled to make court appearances Friday in Anchorage Superior Court.

Jones faces two counts of first-degree assault and three weapons-related counts; Butler faces two counts of sex assault in the first degree and two weapons charges.

The attack was "an attempt to try to recover and/or exact revenge for missing heroin," according to a bail memo filed in the case.

Jones was already in custody at the time a grand jury indicted the trio. Police arrested him Aug. 12 while responding to a complaint at Magic Wand Car Wash on Dimond Boulevard, where a vehicle had been parked in one of the car wash stalls and the occupants reportedly refused to leave.

Jones, the driver of the vehicle, was suffering a possible drug overdose, the bail memo says. Police found him in possession of a semiautomatic handgun with the serial number removed. After treatment at Providence Alaska Medical Center, he was taken to Anchorage jail. Butler was arrested on a probation violation.

Kalinina's record includes a felony assault conviction. Jones was previously convicted of felony attempted extortion and drug charges, among many other crimes. Butler has been convicted of two prior felonies.
