Troopers: Death investigation underway in Chevak

Alaska State Troopers say they're investigating the death of an adult woman in the Southwest village of Chevak.

Troopers got a report late Wednesday morning from the community's village public safety officer. The officer reported that "an adult female was located deceased near the Chevak Clinic," according to a dispatch posted online.

The officer secured the scene while Bethel-based troopers made the 137-mile trip to the remote village, home to nearly 1,000 people.

Troopers say Alaska Bureau of Investigation personnel are also responding to assist.

"The investigation into the cause and circumstances of her death are underway," according to the dispatch.

Troopers' spokesperson Megan Peters had no additional details to immediately share.
