Police: Woman trying to cross Gambell Street hit by car

Anchorage police say a woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a car Friday evening in Midtown Anchorage.

A 911 call at 5:19 p.m. reported the crash near the Cal Worthington car dealership on Gambell Street, said Dani Myren, a police spokesperson.

Medics with the Anchorage Fire Department were first to respond. They heard the call over the radio while collecting money nearby for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's "Fill the Boot" fundraiser, Myren said.

Myren said the woman had stepped into the northbound lane and was hit by a BMW sedan.

"She was attempting to cross the road in an area without a designated pedestrian crosswalk," Myren said.

The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries that Myren classified as "serious but non-life-threatening."
