South, Dimond spikers shine at Chugiak Invitational

Dimond and South posted the best records during Friday's pool play to earn first-round byes in Saturday's bracket competition at the Chugiak Invitational volleyball tournament.

Both teams were 9-1 at the end of a long day of action. Dimond's lone setback was a 10-9 loss to Palmer; South's was an 11-9 loss to West.

The top six teams in the 12-team tournament advanced to the gold bracket. Joining Dimond and South in that bracket are Chugiak (7-3 in pool play), East (6-4), West (5-5) and Service (5-5).

Gaining first-round byes in the silver bracket were Palmer (4-5) and Wasilla (4-5). Others in that bracket include Colony (3-7), West Valley (3-7), Soldotna (2-7) and Eagle River (2-8).

The championship matches for both brackets are scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Saturday at Chugiak.
