Swimming sweeps for South, Dimond, Chugiak

South tops Bartlett

Led by double-winners Vernon Chan and Nathan Lai, the South boys won every event Friday in a Cook Inlet Conference swim meet against Bartlett.

Chan won the 100-yard backstroke and 200 freestyle and Lai topped the 100 free and 200 IM for the Wolverines, who took the boys victory by a score of 140-10.

In girls action, Amber Schoff and Alexandra Shannon each won two events to lead South to a 115-59 victory.

The Jarupakorn family came through for Bartlett, with a win in the 50 free for Catherine and a win in the 100 butterfly for Wanlaya. Both joined Christine Jarupakorn and Jenna Beverlin to take victory in the 400 free relay.

Lynx clean up

Eagle River's Jordyn Bruce was all that prevented Dimond from winning every event Friday in a three-team swimming and diving meet.

Swimming in their home pool, the Lynx won every boys event and all but two girls event to beat Eagle River and East to claim both team titles.

Bruce won the 50 free and the 100 butterfly.

Mustangs rule pool

Powered by three double winners, Chugiak took the boys and girls team victories Friday at a three-team Cook Inlet Conference swim meet at Service.

Sam Burke and Emmie Jennings each won two events for the Chugiak girls, who also won all three relay races. Teague Severson won two events for the Chugiak boys.

Service also produced three swimmers who won two events apiece, all of them boys — Nathaniel Adams, Jonah Rogers and EZ Hogue-Corwin. Service placed second among the girls, but the West boys grabbed second place in the day's final event, the 400-yard free relay, to finish second in the boys team standings, one point ahead of Service.
