Tight matches highlight Wednesday's CIC volleyball action

A pair of dramatic five-set matches highlighted Cook Inlet Conference volleyball play Wednesday night in Anchorage.

Bartlett and Chugiak each trailed 2-0 before rallying to win the final three sets of their respective matches.

Bartlett 3, Eagle River 2

Bartlett rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a five-set Cook Inlet Conference volleyball win (17-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-19, 15-11) over Eagle River on Wednesday night at Bartlett.

Bartlett coach Jackie Matthisen said the Wolves held a 9-5 lead in the decisive set before Bartlett went on a 10-2 run to end the match. Harmony Lee had nine kills and three aces for the Golden Bears, who also got 18 assists and four aces from Loraynna Atufuga and 15 digs and four aces from Kah Yang.

Chugiak 3, Service 2

Service jumped out to a big lead before Chugiak rallied for a razor-thin 3-2 win (23-25, 18-25, 25-15, 27-25, 16-14) Wednesday at Chugiak.

Rachel Gregg had 22 kills and six blocks to lead Chugiak, which also got 45 assists from Anna Ingraham and 12 digs from Sinjin Acuna.

Morgan Christy notched 22 kills and eight blocks for the Cougars, who also got 15 kills from Paxson Lawther and 36 digs from Monique Mojica.

South 3, West 1

South used a 14-kill night from Tatum Upchurch to get by West 3-1 (25-9, 20-25, 25-17, 25-6) in a CIC volleyball match Wednesday at West. Kayla Sims led all players with 45 assists for the Wolverines, who also got eight kills from Sierra Avery. Shelby Little added six kills and three aces for South.

Hana Lance had nine kills, six digs and four aces for West, which also got seven kills from Ashton Jessee and a team-high 25 assists from Rosie Rush.

East 3, Dimond 0

East's Taylor Noga had eight kills and eight digs as the T-birds defeated Dimond 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-21) in a CIC volleyball match Wednesday at East High. Falua Makihele added 18 assists for East, which also got six kills and eight digs from Morgan Hill.

East 3, Colony 1

East defeated Colony 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17) in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday night at Colony. Taylor Noga led East with 10 kills. Morgan Hill added eight kills for the Thunderbirds, who got six digs from Madeline Tschappat and 22 assists from Mafi Makihele.?
