Personal trainer accused of sexually assaulting Anchorage teen

Anchorage prosecutors have charged a 36-year-old in-home personal trainer with sexually abusing his client's teenage daughter.

Marvin Colbert provided services to the victim and her mother, according to the Anchorage District Attorney's Office. The assault is alleged to have occurred in July.

"Following the personal training session, the teenager's mother left her alone with Colbert," assistant district attorney Jason Gist said in the news release. Colbert is alleged to have sexually abused the girl at that time, he said.

According to the indictment, Colbert faces one count of second-degree sex abuse of a minor.

An Anchorage Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit detective wrote in the criminal complaint against Colbert that the victim was 14.

The indictment also says Colbert was a family friend of the woman and girl in addition to being their personal trainer. He is accused of assaulting the girl while helping her stretch after a workout.

During a forensic interview, the girl said Colbert did not say anything to her during the assault, nor did he acknowledge what he'd done after they finished stretching, according to the indictment.

An electronic-monitoring search warrant obtained by police allowed the detective to listen in on a phone call between Colbert and the alleged victim.

"When (the girl) made the phone call one of the first things Marvin said was that 'he was sorry,'" the detective wrote. "Marvin told her that he did not know why he touched her, and that he did think she was attractive, and that he felt like while he was touching her he was 'living in the moment.'"

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Colbert based on the forensic interview and phone call.

Colbert faces a sentence of five to 15 years. His initial court appearance is set for next week.

An online Alaska prison inmate database indicates Colbert was released to a third-party custodian on Aug. 15. He has no criminal record, according to online court records.
