Lynx stop West Valley for Spiketacular volleyball title

Chrisalyn Johnson racked up five kills and five digs and Brynn Sulte totaled five blocks to lead Dimond to the championship of the 21-team West Spiketacular volleyball tournament Saturday at West High.

Dimond turned back West Valley in two sets in the gold bracket championship match, winning 25-12, 25-5.

Other titles went to Colony, which downed Service in the silver bracket championship match, and Kenai, which beat Bartlett 25-19, 20-25, 16-6, to win the bronze bracket.

Dimond and West Valley split their matches in Friday's pool play, but when they met in the final match, the Lynx were in control. Cali Clark served three aces to go along with four kills and Jenna Mixon dished seven assists for Dimond.

Rohyn Huss was Dimond's selection for the all-tournament team, which featured one player from each teach. West Valley's all-tourney pick was Stacy Hernandez.

Valdez Invitational

Valdez rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Grace Christian in the championship match of the Valdez Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday in Valdez.

The Buccaneers triumphed 22-25, 25-15, 15-8 in the gold bracket title match despite 10 kills and three blocks from tournament MVP Kinley Hickok of Grace Christian.

In the silver bracket title match, Delta Junction beat Bethel.
