Shooting at Anchorage house party leaves teen injured

A Sunday morning shooting at a house party in Anchorage left a 17-year-old girl with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Anchorage police, who are seeking more information on the shooting.

A release from the Anchorage Police Department said that numerous 911 calls came in just after midnight reporting a "large disturbance" and gunfire in the area of O'Brien Street, near the intersection of Lake Otis Parkway and 68th Avenue.

Police said their initial investigation revealed a house party of teenagers and people in their early 20s had been taking place at a home on the street when an "unknown and uninvited" group tried to enter the party, but were denied entry. One of the members of the group then reportedly produced a handgun and fired multiple rounds into the home, police said, before fleeing the scene in a red vehicle.

A 17-year-old girl was hit in the lower back by one of the shots and transported to an area hospital and was believed to be in stable condition Sunday morning, police said.

Police are asking for the public's help in gathering further information on the shooting. Anyone with additional information is asked to call APD at 907-786-8900 or provide a tip to Crime Stoppers at 907-561-7867 or their website.
