Fairbanks pilot walks away from emergency landing: Alaska State Troopers say 63-year-old Fairbanks pilot Robert Harte was flying his Piper J-3 from his homestead in the Brooks Range to Circle on Sunday when the plane ran out of fuel. Harte made an emergency landing on the tundra, troopers said. He wasn't hurt -- he later went to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for "precautionary reasons" -- but the Piper Cub sustained significant damage, they said. A good Samaritan who saw the plane go down called the Fairbanks Flight Service Station with the coordinates about 40 miles southeast of Fort Yukon around 1 p.m., according to troopers and the Alaska National Guard. The Guard launched an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter and an HC-130 King fixed-wing aircraft with teams from the 212th Rescue Squadron to the location, according to Guard spokesman Sgt. Edward Eagerton. They found Harte in stable condition and hoisted him into the Pave Hawk for the trip to Fairbanks, where they arrived around 7 p.m, Eagerton said.

Kodiak woman arrested on charges of smuggling heroin, meth in body: Alaska State Troopers reported that a 42-year-old Kodiak woman had been arrested on numerous charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance when investigators discovered she was concealing $24,000 worth of heroin and $2,500 worth of methamphetamines inside her body as she tried to board a plane from Anchorage to Kodiak. Investigators with the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team contacted Tamra M. Jones at the Anchorage airport Saturday "as part of a long term narcotics investigation," troopers wrote in an online dispatch. After contacting Jones, investigators obtained a search warrant and took her to a local hospital, where a scan was performed and "revealed that Jones was concealing in her body a balloon with smaller items inside it," troopers said. "Jones voluntarily removed the item which was turned over to law enforcement." Troopers said the balloon contained more than 24 grams of heroin and more than 8 grams of methamphetamine, and alleged the drugs were intended for sale in Kodiak. Jones was taken to the Anchorage Jail, where her bail conditions were set at $25,000 and supervision by a third-party custodian.

"The warrant stemmed from an investigation, which revealed Hill unlawfully gain access to a The Kuskokwim Corporation credit card account and made numerous withdrawals, which amounted to more than $3,000 in corporation funds," the dispatch said.
