Alaska US Senate candidates Sullivan, Begich venture Outside for fundraisers

Alaska Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dan Sullivan was spotted Monday raising money for his campaign in Ohio by a Democratic opposition research organization, American Bridge 21st Century.

The Washington Post reported that Sullivan, who has faced questions from Democrats about his Alaska bona fides, was captured on video at the Cleveland Union Club by American Bridge.

A spokesman for Sullivan, Mike Anderson, said Sullivan has had a series of fundraisers outside Alaska.

Outside fundraisers are not uncommon for Alaska candidates. Sullivan and his Democratic opponent, Sen. Mark Begich, have both raised the majority of their money from Outside.

Last week, Begich also spent time Outside raising money, spokesman Max Croes said in a phone interview Monday.

In an interview after a public appearance in Anchorage on Monday, Begich refused to say where he'd conducted Outside fundraisers, calling the location "irrelevant."

The Begich campaign also criticized Sullivan for missing a candidate forum in Anchorage on Sunday, where Begich appeared along with the Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate, Mark Fish.

Sullivan's campaign told the Post that the organizers of the forum, Shiloh Community Development, had been aware of Sullivan's absence in advance, and that Sullivan took questions at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church a week earlier.
