Deadline to register to vote for general election Sunday

Alaskans who wish to go to the polls in the Nov. 4 general election must be registered to vote by Sunday, Oct. 5.

Oct. 5 is also the deadline to update existing voter registration records with new information before the election.

All Division of Elections local offices will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday to process new registrations and updates. You may verify your voter registration, print out forms, and find local offices and polling places at the Division of Elections website.

Voters can also register or update their registration while requesting an absentee ballot via smartphone using the vote-ak.us app.

In addition to races for the Legislature, governor, U.S. House and U.S. Senate, the November ballot will ask voters to consider three ballot initiatives, including one that would legalize recreational marijuana, another that would raise Alaska's minimum wage and another that would require the Legislature to approve any large-scale, open pit mine in the Bristol Bay region. Voters will also consider whether to retain district, superior and Alaska Supreme Court judges. In the Municipality of Anchorage, voters will decide whether to repeal AO-37, which made changes to Anchorage's collective-bargaining law.
