Man found dead near Tununak clinic

Alaska State Troopers say a death investigation is underway in the Southwest village of Tununak.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Bethel-based troopers got a report about a death in Tununak, 115 miles northwest of the regional hub.

Troopers flew to the village in a state aircraft and arrived around noon the same day, said spokesperson Megan Peters.

The deceased, identified as 36-year-old Walter "Jason" Walter, was found near the old Tununak Clinic, troopers said.

Walter's family has been notified of his death.

Peters declined to say whether investigators suspected foul play, citing an ongoing investigation.

Walter's body is being taken to the State Medical Examiner Office in Anchorage for an autopsy, troopers said.
