Aces trade Mele's rights to Tulsa (plus, a couple notes)

The Alaska Aces have traded the ECHL rights to winger Tommy Mele to ECHL newcomer Tulsa -- the Oilers are one of seven remaining Central Hockey League clubs that joined the ECHL last week.

Word of that move came on the ECHL website today.

Presumably, because this is how these things generally work, the Oilers will owe the Aces a player, or as it is often known, "future considerations.''. Mele spent the last two seasons with the Aces and was part of their Kelly Cup-winning crew in June.

Alaska already is owed a future consideration -- from Orlando if memory serves -- so now they have two players owed to them. Given Alaska's lack of depth on defense, maybe the Aces will get a blueliner or two out of the situation.

In any event, in other ECHL news, the South Carolina Stingrays released former UAA goaltender Rob Gunderson from training camp and the Bakersfield Condors did the same with former UAA winger Mitch Bruijsten.
