UAA: WCHA suspends Cameron one game; honors Kozun

The WCHA today suspended UAA senior winger Brett Cameron one game for his major penalty Saturday night, when he delivered a big hit on Wisconsin defenseman Tim Davison.

Cameron received a major for contact to the head and a game misconduct in the 4-2 Seawolves win.

His absence against Penn State will force UAA bench boss Matt Thomas to move someone into the right-wing slot on the first line that includes center Blake Tatchell and left wing Scott Allen, or juggle two or more lines.

Look for more on Cameron's suspension later today on adn.com/sports and in Tuesday's dead-trees publication.

Also, the WCHA today named UAA freshman Tad Kozun its Rookie of the Week. Kozun bagged two goals against Wisconsin and had an assist in his college debut in Friday's season-opening 3-1 win over Maine. Kozun was selected to the all-tournament team at UAA's Kendall Hockey Classic.

Meanwhile, UAF sophomore goaltender Davis Jones, Most Outstanding Player at the Kendall, was named the WCHA's Defensive Player of the Week. He stopped 33 of 35 shots and started the season with a 1-0 win over Wisconsin for his first career shutout.
