Public wages help economy

The better standard of living our city servants enjoy, the more our community benefits from that. Those wages and benefits they earn are spent back into the economy, which fuels local business growth. Everybody wins. I feel any time you try to take away the workers' collective voice, which gives them some strength, with laws like AO 37, you weaken the workers' position, which will ultimately reduce their earning potential, and in the end weaken our businesses and community as a whole. AO 37 is an attack on workers with an intent to break up their unity so they are left to go it alone. In the animal world there is strength in the herd. This is no different.

Begich wrong on Obamacare

It's official. Last week I received the letter from my insurance company stating that my policy will be canceled at the end of the year because it does not meet the requirements of Obamacare. In 2009, Mark Begich told Alaskans that we could keep our insurance plans. Did Mark not read the bill when he voted for it, or did he just not understand it? Or perhaps we were just lied to. In addition, Begich proclaimed in a press release that Alaskan families could save up to $3,400 per year.

In the letter, my insurance company states that they're happy to offer a new plan to me for only $2,266 per month for my family of five. That's a 150 percent increase from my current premium, and a 250 percent increase from my premium when Obamacare was passed. Sen. Begich may be from Alaska, but his policies are bad for Alaskans. I encourage all voters not to forget, because an informed voter is Begich's worst nightmare.

Behind the curve of history

So the state will appeal the ruling of the U.S. District Court? How long before our state leaders realize that they're behind the curve of history? I'm of the opinion that, given his way, our incompetent governor would repeal the 14th amendment and reinstitute segregation. We must vote him out; he has no business being the governor. I would vote to elect my dog before I would vote for that man.
